Full Height Turnstile – Powder Coated
Product Description
Full height security turnstiles provide controlled pedestrian access while creating a substantial physical barrier between secured and unsecured areas. The full-height rotor extends from the floor to above the user's head, making these turnstiles well suited for high-security entrances, industrial facilities, warehouses, manufacturing plants, stadiums, utilities, schools and other controlled-access environments.
The turnstiles can operate as stand-alone pedestrian-control equipment or integrate with an existing access-control system. Electronic configurations can interface with card readers, RFID systems, biometric readers and other access-control equipment.
High-Security Construction
The turnstile frame and rotor are designed for demanding commercial and industrial environments. Available construction includes galvanized steel, powder-coated carbon steel and 304 stainless steel. Combination finishes, such as a powder-coated frame with stainless-steel rotor components, are also available for architectural applications.
The rotor incorporates automatic indexing and self-centering, helping return the rotor to its proper position after each passage.
Passage Widths
Full height turnstiles are available in multiple passage widths to accommodate different applications and traffic requirements.
Available standard passage widths include approximately:
- 27 inches — narrow passage
- 30 inches — standard passage
- 39 inches — wider industrial passage
- 48 inches — extra-wide passage
All configurations provide an approximately 84-inch clear passage height with an overall installed height of approximately 91 inches.
The wider configurations are particularly useful where users may be carrying backpacks, equipment, packages or other items, or where higher pedestrian throughput and greater clearance are desirable.
Manual or Electrically Controlled
Full height turnstiles can be configured for manual or electronic operation depending on the security requirements of the entrance.
Electronic configurations can provide:
- Controlled entry in one direction
- Controlled entry in both directions
- Free passage in one direction with controlled passage in the other
- Locked passage in one direction
- Fail-secure operation
- Fail-safe operation
- Key override
The control system can be integrated with the facility's access-control system and selected according to the required security and emergency-release strategy.
Access-Control Integration
The turnstile can be supplied with provisions for integrating access-control equipment, including card readers and biometric readers. Reader mounting plates are included for electric models.
The access-control system determines whether a user is authorized to pass, while the turnstile provides the physical control point.
This makes full height turnstiles appropriate for facilities requiring controlled pedestrian movement without relying solely on doors or conventional fencing.
Powder-Coated Color Options
Powder coating provides an alternative to galvanized or stainless-steel finishes where the appearance of the turnstile needs to coordinate with fencing, buildings or other architectural elements.
Standard powder-coat colors include black, white, oyster white, gray aluminum, blue, green and terra brown, with additional custom colors available. Custom RAL colors can be specified for projects requiring a particular architectural finish.
Powder coating can be used on the complete turnstile or combined with stainless-steel components for a more architectural appearance.
Options
Depending on the configuration, available options include:
- Bidirectional key override
- Visible indicator lights
- Digital passage counter
- Card-reader mounting enclosure
- Lockout bar
- Stainless-steel overhead canopy
- Half canopy
- Cold-weather package
- Thermostat-controlled heater
- Insulated mainframe
- Push-button or wireless controls
- Heel-guard protection
These options allow the turnstile to be configured for the operating environment rather than requiring a single standard configuration.
Outdoor Installation Model
To protect the powder coated color in extreme weather, the powder coat must be applied over a galvanized steel finish. This will effect cost. Please inquire.
Outdoor and Cold-Weather Applications
Full height turnstiles are suitable for outdoor installations when properly configured for the environmental conditions.
For cold climates, an optional thermostatically controlled heater and insulated mainframe can be specified. Canopies can also provide additional protection over the turnstile and passage area.
Material selection should also consider the environment. Stainless steel is particularly appropriate where increased corrosion resistance or a premium architectural appearance is required.
Installation
Full height turnstiles are surface mounted to a prepared concrete foundation. Installation requires accurate positioning of the turnstile, proper anchoring and coordination of electrical and access-control wiring.
Manufacturer installation documentation provides specific anchor and conduit locations for the different turnstile configurations.
Before installation, the contractor should coordinate:
- Concrete foundation
- Turnstile dimensions
- Passage width
- Anchor locations
- Conduit locations
- Power requirements
- Access-control wiring
- Finished floor elevation
- Required overhead clearance
- ADA access requirements
A minimum of approximately 4 inches of clearance above the turnstile cover is recommended to allow access for removal of the cover and servicing of the control mechanism.
Where an accessible route is required, a full-height ADA gate can be installed alongside the turnstile to provide an accessible passage.
