72" Dual-Height Steel Access Control Pedestal
Product Description
This dual-height access-control pedestal provides a durable mounting platform for access-control equipment serving passenger vehicles, delivery vehicles, buses, semi-trucks and other large commercial vehicles. Two equipment heads are positioned at approximately 42 inches and 72 inches, allowing drivers of different vehicle types to interact with access-control equipment without excessive reaching or repositioning.
The dual-channel design provides separate internal wiring paths to the upper and lower equipment heads, making the pedestal suitable for installations requiring multiple readers, intercoms, keypads, cameras or other access-control devices at different vehicle heights.
Dual-Height Configuration
The lower equipment position is approximately 42 inches high, providing a convenient operating height for passenger vehicles and SUVs. The upper position is approximately 72 inches high, providing access for buses, semi-trucks, delivery vehicles and other taller vehicles.
The 12-inch reach positions the equipment toward the vehicle lane, helping drivers operate readers, intercoms and other devices without excessive leaning out of the vehicle or folding in side mirrors.
Dual-Channel Wiring
The pedestal uses a single 2 × 4-inch channel at the bottom, which divides approximately 24 inches above the base into two separate channels leading to the upper and lower equipment heads. This provides an organized pathway for power, communications and access-control wiring while keeping wiring protected within the pedestal.
Steel Construction and Finish
The pedestal is constructed from carbon steel tubing with a 0.120-inch wall thickness. The manufacturer specifies a tight, uniform 6-inch bend radius and states that the tube uses 62% more steel than competing models referenced by the manufacturer.
The exterior is finished with polyester powder coating with UV protection for outdoor exposure. The standard finish is black wrinkle. The manufacturer states that the pedestal is engineered to withstand sustained Category 5 hurricane-force winds.
Equipment Mounting
The universal face plates allow the pedestal to accommodate access-control equipment from different manufacturers. Typical equipment includes:
- Card and RFID readers
- Intercoms
- Keypads
- Entry and exit buttons
- Biometric readers
- Telephone entry systems
- Cameras
- Equipment housings
- Other access-control devices
Equipment shown in product images is not included with the pedestal.
Baseplate and Installation
This is a pad-mounted pedestal rather than an in-ground or wet-cement installation. The base can be positioned on or off a concrete curb or traffic island, providing flexibility for parking-lot and gate installations. A heavy-duty base plate and sliding cover plate conceal the mounting bolts after installation.
Two styles of mounting-bolt kits are available separately. For installation on existing concrete, the mounting location can be laid out and drilled and anchored using an appropriate mounting system for the concrete condition.
For new construction, the concrete pad or island, reinforcement, conduit and underground wiring should be coordinated before concrete work begins. Trenching may be required to bring power, communications and access-control wiring to the pedestal location.
The pad-mounted design can also simplify future replacement because the pedestal can be unbolted from the concrete rather than removing a post embedded in cured concrete.
Customization
The pedestal can be customized for project-specific requirements, including colors, height, reach, face plates and base plates. Custom configurations may involve additional cost and lead time.
Typical Applications
- Parking access-control entrances
