84" Dual-Height Heavy-Duty Pedestal
Product Description
A Guide to Access Control Pedestals & Vehicle Terminals
This dual-height heavy-duty access-control pedestal provides a robust mounting platform for vehicle access-control equipment serving both passenger vehicles and large commercial vehicles. Its two equipment mounting positions place access-control devices at approximately 42 inches and 84 inches, allowing drivers of cars, SUVs, delivery vehicles, buses and semi-trucks to interact with equipment at an appropriate height.
The pedestal is designed for applications requiring multiple access-control devices at different vehicle heights. It can accommodate card readers, RFID readers, intercoms, keypads, entry and exit buttons, biometric readers, telephone entry systems, cameras, equipment housings and other access-control devices.
Dual-Height Configuration
The upper and lower equipment positions provide access for different vehicle types using the same entrance lane. The approximately 42-inch lower mounting position is suited to passenger vehicles, while the 84-inch upper position provides a convenient operating height for truck and commercial-vehicle drivers.
The pedestal provides a 12-inch reach, allowing equipment to project toward the vehicle lane rather than requiring drivers to position their vehicles immediately alongside the pedestal.
Heavy-Duty Construction
The pedestal uses a 4 × 4-inch continuous steel tube with a 0.120-inch wall thickness. The manufacturer specifies continuous tube sections rather than butt-welded sections, with continuous fillet welds unless otherwise noted on the engineering drawing.
The steel construction is finished with a black wrinkle polyester powder coat with UV protection for exterior use. The manufacturer describes the pedestal as engineered for sustained Category 5 hurricane-force winds, making it appropriate for demanding outdoor access-control installations.
Equipment Mounting
The dual-head design provides separate mounting locations for equipment at the two vehicle heights. The standard configuration includes 8-inch face plates, allowing access-control equipment to be mounted directly to the pedestal or integrated with compatible equipment housings and mounting accessories.
The face plates use universal mounting provisions so the pedestal can accommodate access-control equipment from different manufacturers. Equipment shown in product images is not included with the pedestal.
Baseplate and Foundation Installation
This is a pad-mounted pedestal, allowing it to be installed on an existing or newly constructed concrete curb, island or foundation. The standard configuration includes a 12 × 12-inch base plate and a sliding cover plate that conceals the mounting bolts after installation.
Two styles of mounting-bolt kits are available separately. The appropriate anchoring method should be selected based on the concrete condition, structural requirements and project conditions.
For new construction, the concrete pad, reinforcement, conduit and underground wiring should be coordinated before installation. Drilling and anchoring can be used where an existing suitable concrete surface is available.
Conduit and Trenching
Power, communications and access-control wiring can be routed through the pedestal's internal 4 × 4-inch channel, allowing wiring to reach both the upper and lower equipment heads.
Where underground wiring is required, trenching and conduit pathways should be coordinated with the pedestal location and concrete island before site work begins. The pedestal itself does not establish a universal trench depth or conduit configuration; those requirements should be determined by the electrical, communications and access-control design.
Customization
The pedestal can be customized for project-specific requirements, including height, neck reach, face plates, base plates and powder-coat color. These options allow the pedestal to be adapted to different equipment packages, vehicle heights and architectural requirements.
The manufacturer also identifies readily available alternate powder-coat colors and custom RAL colors. Custom configurations may affect cost and lead time.
