48" Steel Gooseneck Access Control Pedestal
Product Description
A Guide to Access Control Pedestals & Vehicle Terminals
This 48-inch steel access-control pedestal provides a durable mounting platform for card readers, RFID readers, intercoms, keypads, entry and exit buttons, cameras and other access-control equipment at vehicle entrances, parking facilities and controlled-access points.
Its 48-inch equipment height provides a convenient operating position for passenger vehicles and other applications where a lower equipment position is preferred. The compact pedestal design keeps access-control equipment positioned alongside the vehicle lane while minimizing the space required for the supporting structure.
Single-Height Configuration
The pedestal provides a single equipment mounting position at approximately 48 inches high. This makes it suitable for entrances where one consistent operating height is required rather than separate equipment positions for different vehicle types.
The pedestal's 12-inch reach positions the equipment toward the driver, making readers, keypads and intercoms easier to access from a vehicle without requiring the driver to pull excessively close to the pedestal.
Universal Equipment Mounting
The pedestal uses a universal mounting face that accommodates a variety of access-control equipment. Typical applications include:
- Card and RFID readers
- Intercoms
- Keypads
- Entry and exit buttons
- Biometric readers
- Telephone entry systems
- Cameras
- Access-control equipment housings
Access-control equipment is not included with the pedestal.
Steel Construction and Finish
The pedestal is constructed from carbon steel tubing and finished with an exterior polyester powder coat with UV protection. The standard finish is black wrinkle, providing a durable exterior finish for outdoor access-control installations.
The steel construction is suitable for commercial parking facilities, gated communities, office properties, industrial sites and other controlled-access locations.
Baseplate and Installation
This is a pad-mounted/floor-mounted pedestal, allowing it to be installed on an existing concrete curb, traffic island, parking-lot foundation or newly constructed concrete pad.
For existing concrete, the base can be positioned and drilled and anchored using appropriate hardware for the substrate and project requirements. The mounting hardware should be selected based on the concrete condition and applicable structural requirements.
For new construction, the concrete pad or traffic island, reinforcement, conduit and underground wiring should be coordinated before concrete work begins.
Trenching and Conduit
Where electrical, communications or access-control wiring is required, trenching and underground conduit should be coordinated with the pedestal location before site work begins.
The pedestal provides a protected pathway for wiring between the base and the mounted equipment. Conduit size, trench depth and electrical requirements should be established by the project's electrical and access-control plans.
Baseplate and Service Access
The pad-mounted configuration allows the pedestal to be unbolted from the concrete if replacement or relocation is ever required. A cover can conceal the mounting hardware after installation while maintaining access for future service.
This installation method can be advantageous for parking facilities and other sites where equipment may need to be replaced without removing an embedded pedestal from cured concrete.
Customization
Project-specific options can include height, reach, mounting face, base configuration and powder-coat color. Custom configurations can accommodate different access-control equipment or architectural requirements and may affect cost and lead time.
