A Guide to Access Control Pedestals & Vehicle Terminals
This tapered stainless-steel access-control pedestal provides an architectural mounting solution for card readers, door stations, cameras, intercoms, keypads, entry/exit buttons, biometric readers, ADA actuators and other access-control equipment. Its clean stainless-steel construction and tapered architectural profile make it well suited for building entrances, glass lobbies, Class A commercial properties and other high-visibility installations.
The pedestal provides a 6-inch equipment face with a standard single-gang cutout and two mounting holes. Additional device cutouts can be specified when required for a particular access-control device or equipment package.
Architectural Stainless-Steel Construction
The pedestal is fabricated from stainless steel with a brushed stainless finish. Its one-piece construction, tapered profile and rounded architectural design provide a clean appearance while supporting access-control equipment in demanding commercial environments.
A 0.25-inch-thick base plate provides a substantial mounting interface between the pedestal and its supporting surface. The manufacturer states that the pedestal is designed to withstand sustained Category 5 hurricane-force winds up to 157 mph.
The standard construction is brushed stainless steel, with alternate materials and finishes available for projects requiring specific architectural or environmental requirements. The manufacturer identifies 316 stainless steel and powder-coat color options among its customization choices.
Equipment Mounting
The standard pedestal includes a single-gang device opening with two mounting holes. The opening and mounting provisions are configured to accommodate the customer's selected equipment. Additional cutouts can be specified for applications requiring multiple devices or non-standard equipment dimensions.

Concealed Fastening and Service Access
The pedestal is designed so that fasteners are not visible after installation. An access panel on the rear provides access to the interior, allowing equipment and mounting hardware to be installed from the inside. This creates a clean finished appearance while maintaining access for installation and service.
Baseplate and Installation
The pedestal is designed for pad or floor mounting. The substantial base plate provides the connection between the pedestal and the supporting concrete or structural surface. The manufacturer offers mounting-bolt kits separately for securing the pedestal to the ground.
For an existing concrete installation, the mounting location can be laid out and drilled and anchored using an appropriate anchoring system selected for the concrete condition and project requirements.
For new construction, the concrete pad or foundation, reinforcement, conduit and underground wiring should be coordinated before the concrete work is completed.
Trenching and Conduit
Where power, communications or access-control wiring must be brought to the pedestal from below grade, trenching and conduit should be coordinated with the pedestal location as part of the site installation.
The trench depth, conduit size and electrical requirements will depend on the access-control equipment and project specifications. These dimensions should therefore be established by the project's electrical and access-control plans rather than treated as universal pedestal requirements.
Customization
The pedestal can be customized for project-specific requirements, including device cutouts, height and finish. The manufacturer also identifies powder-coat colors and alternate stainless-steel material options. Custom configurations may affect cost and lead time.
Custom device cutouts are particularly useful when the selected card reader, ADA actuator, intercom or other access-control device does not use the standard single-gang configuration.
