47" Tappered Aluminum Pedestal with 4" Face
Product Description
A Guide to Access Control Pedestals & Vehicle Terminals
This 47-inch tapered stainless-steel access-control pedestal provides a compact architectural mounting solution for ADA actuators, card readers, entry and exit buttons, intercoms and other access-control equipment. Its narrow 4-inch face and clean tapered design make it well suited to pedestrian entrances, building lobbies and other locations where a low-profile, finished appearance is important.
The pedestal stands approximately 47 inches high, with the equipment mounting position at approximately 42 inches. The 4-inch face provides a compact mounting surface for compatible access-control equipment while maintaining a relatively small architectural footprint.
Architectural Stainless-Steel Construction
The pedestal is constructed from 304 stainless steel with a brushed #4, 180-grit finish. The tapered tower design, rounded corner treatment and stainless-steel finish provide a clean architectural appearance suitable for high-visibility entrances.
The pedestal uses a 4" × 4" × 0.120" wall stainless-steel tube. Its base plate is fabricated from 0.25-inch 304 stainless steel, providing a substantial connection to the supporting surface.
The manufacturer describes the product as having luxury aesthetics, antimicrobial surface characteristics, universal design and heavy-duty materials. It is also identified as ADA compliant.
Access-Control Equipment
The 4-inch face provides a compact location for mounting access-control equipment. The standard configuration includes a single-gang device cutout.
Typical applications include:
- ADA door actuators
- Card readers
- RFID readers
- Entry and exit buttons
- Intercoms
- Keypads
- Biometric readers
- Other compatible access-control devices
The selected access-control equipment is not included with the pedestal.
Equipment Mounting Height
Although the pedestal is approximately 47 inches overall, the equipment mounting height is approximately 42 inches. This distinction is important when coordinating the pedestal with architectural plans and the mounting requirements of the selected access-control device.
Concealed Construction and Service Access
The pedestal incorporates an access panel that provides access to the interior of the tower. The engineering drawing identifies a separate access-panel component and a stainless-steel cap as part of the pedestal assembly.
This allows wiring and equipment connections to be serviced while maintaining a clean exterior appearance.
Baseplate and Installation
The pedestal is designed for pad mounting to a concrete foundation or other suitable structural surface. The 0.25-inch stainless-steel base plate provides the mounting interface between the pedestal and the supporting surface.
For existing concrete, the pedestal location can be laid out and the mounting surface drilled and anchored using an appropriate anchoring system selected for the substrate and project requirements.
For new construction, the concrete pad or foundation, reinforcement, conduit and underground wiring should be coordinated before concrete work begins.
Trenching and Conduit
Where access-control wiring must be brought to the pedestal from below grade, trenching and conduit should be coordinated with the pedestal location during site planning.
Conduit size, trench depth and electrical requirements will depend on the equipment being installed and the project's electrical and access-control specifications.
Customization
The pedestal can be customized for project-specific requirements. Available options include custom device cutouts, shortening or extending the height, powder-coat colors, custom RAL colors and upgrading the material to 316 stainless steel.
Custom cutouts are useful when the selected reader, ADA actuator or other access-control device does not use the standard opening.
Typical Applications
- ADA-accessible entrances
- Commercial building entrances
- Office buildings
- Lobby entrances
- Pedestrian access-control points
- Educational facilities
- Institutional facilities
- Hospitality properties
- Interior or exterior architectural access-control installations
