6" x 8" Outdoor Access Control Reader Cover
Product Description
A Guide to Access Control Pedestals & Vehicle Terminals
This 6 × 8 outdoor access-control reader cover provides a durable protective hood for card readers, keypads, intercoms, entry and exit buttons, and other access-control devices installed at exposed exterior locations. Its portrait configuration provides a compact protective enclosure for equipment requiring additional vertical coverage while maintaining a relatively narrow profile.
The universal design allows the hood to accommodate access-control equipment from different manufacturers and is suitable for pedestrian and vehicle access points, parking facilities, gated entrances, commercial properties, residential communities and other controlled-access locations.
Equipment Protection
A 3.5-inch top overhang helps shield equipment from rain, snow and sun exposure while leaving the front of the installed device accessible to users. The hood can protect card and proximity readers, keypads, intercoms, entry/exit buttons and similar equipment.
The 6 × 8 portrait configuration is particularly useful where the installed device requires more vertical space but the available mounting area is relatively narrow.
Construction and Finish
The hood is fabricated from 16-gauge carbon steel and finished with an exterior polyester powder coat with UV inhibitor. The standard finish is black wrinkle. This construction provides a durable protective enclosure for exterior access-control installations.
Installation
The cover is designed for surface mounting, with knockout holes provided for drilling and fastening the hood to the supporting structure. The installation drawing identifies 0.30-inch knockout holes and provides the mounting geometry and dimensional information for field installation.
The hood can be mounted to a concrete wall, masonry, steel structure, access-control pedestal, terminal or other suitable structural support. Anchors and fasteners should be selected according to the actual substrate and project conditions.
For new installations, trenching and conduit pathways for power, communications and access-control wiring should be coordinated with the hood location before concrete and site work are completed. Underground conduit and trenching are part of the overall access-control installation rather than the hood itself.
When the hood is incorporated into a freestanding pedestal or terminal, baseplates, anchors and foundation requirements are determined by the supporting structure. The hood can therefore be incorporated into either new construction or an existing suitable structural support.
Mounting and Custom Options
The standard 6 × 8 hood is supplied in black wrinkle powder coat. Custom options include alternate powder-coat colors and modified height, width or depth when a project requires a different protective configuration. Custom options may involve additional cost and lead time.
The manufacturer's installation drawing provides the specific knockout and mounting geometry for this configuration. The drawing identifies the principal dimensions in inches and specifies the applicable dimensional tolerances for fabrication and installation.
