10" x 10" Outdoor Access Control Reader Cover
Product Description
A Guide to Access Control Pedestals & Vehicle Terminals
This 10 × 10 outdoor access-control reader cover provides a durable protective hood for card readers, keypads, intercoms, entry and exit buttons, and other access-control equipment installed at exposed exterior locations. The square configuration provides additional mounting and protective coverage for equipment that requires more space than smaller reader covers.
The universal design makes the hood suitable for a variety of access-control equipment and applications, including parking facilities, vehicle gates, pedestrian entrances, commercial properties, residential communities and other controlled-access locations.
Equipment Protection
A 3.5-inch top overhang helps shield installed equipment from rain, snow and direct sun exposure. The equipment remains accessible from the front while the hood provides overhead protection from weather.
The 10 × 10 configuration is appropriate for larger card and proximity readers, keypads, intercoms, push buttons and other access-control devices that require a larger protective area.
Construction and Finish
The hood is fabricated from 16-gauge carbon steel and finished with an exterior polyester powder coat with UV inhibitor. The standard finish is black wrinkle. The steel construction provides a durable enclosure for exterior access-control installations.
Installation
The cover is designed for surface mounting. Knockout holes indicate where the installer can drill the required mounting holes for attachment to the supporting structure. The manufacturer's installation drawing identifies 0.30-inch knockout holes and provides the mounting-hole layout and dimensional information.
The hood can be mounted to a concrete wall, masonry, steel structure, access-control pedestal, terminal or other suitable structural support. Anchors and fasteners should be selected according to the actual substrate and project conditions.
For new access-control installations, trenching and conduit pathways for power, communications and control wiring should be coordinated with the hood location before concrete and site work are completed. Underground wiring and trenching are part of the overall access-control installation rather than the hood itself.
When the hood is incorporated into a freestanding pedestal or terminal, baseplates, anchors and foundation requirements are determined by the supporting structure. The hood can therefore be incorporated into either new construction or an existing suitable support.
Mounting and Custom Options
The standard 10 × 10 hood is supplied in black wrinkle powder coat. Custom options include alternate powder-coat colors and modified height, width or depth when a project requires a different protective configuration. Custom options may involve additional cost and lead time.
The installation drawing provides the specific knockout and mounting geometry for the 10 × 10 configuration. The drawing identifies an overall principal dimension of approximately 10.02 inches and shows the knockout locations and mounting pattern.
