Product Description

The Optical Turnstiles with long cabinets combines controlled pedestrian access with a clean, modern appearance suitable for corporate offices, government facilities, higher education, commercial buildings, elevator banks and other secured entrances. Its slim aluminum construction and clear swinging barriers allow multiple lanes to be installed while maintaining an open architectural sight line.

The Optical Turnstiles with long cabinets provides bi-directional access control and integrates with a facility's access-control or visitor-management system. When an authorized credential is presented, the motorized glass barrier opens smoothly in the requested direction. Integrated sensors monitor the passage area and can detect unauthorized entry, tailgating and unauthorized presence.

Three Cabinet Length Options

The system is available in three configurations to accommodate different architectural and security requirements:

  • Compact: approximately 47.25" long
  • Standard Security: approximately 65" long
  • Enhanced Security: approximately 65.375" long

The longer configurations incorporate additional sensing for increased detection capability. The compact configuration is particularly useful where available floor space is limited, including elevator banks and reception areas.

Passage Width Options

Standard passage widths are approximately 26" or 36", allowing the system to be specified for standard pedestrian traffic or wider accessible passage requirements. The cabinet dimensions remain consistent between the standard and wider lane configurations.

Additional passage-width configurations are available for certain applications, so the final clear opening should be specified during the architectural planning stage.

Barrier Heights

Multiple barrier heights are available, allowing the turnstile to be selected according to the desired level of pedestrian separation and architectural requirements. The available configurations include clear glass barriers with upper edges up to approximately 39", 47", or 71", depending on the selected configuration.

The taller barriers can provide additional physical separation while maintaining visibility through the entrance.

Standard Panels: Optical Turnstiles - Long Cabinets

Intelligent Detection and Security

The optical sensing system continuously monitors the passage area. Depending on configuration, the system uses horizontal and vertical sensing to identify unauthorized passage and tailgating attempts. When an unauthorized passage is detected, the system can generate an alarm.

The longer configurations add a vertical sensor element to increase detection capability. This makes the longer versions appropriate where a higher level of passage monitoring is required.

Safety and Emergency Operation

Safety sensors monitor the movement of the barrier panels and can stop panel movement when a person or object is detected. The closed-loop drive system provides controlled panel movement and adjustable holding force.

For emergency or life-safety conditions, the barriers can provide free egress. The system can also be configured to open automatically upon a life-safety signal or power-loss condition, depending on the selected configuration.

Access Control Integration

The Optical Turnstiles with long cabinets is designed to integrate with virtually any compatible access-control or visitor-management system. Credential options can include RFID readers, card readers, barcode readers and other access-control technologies.

Reader preparation can be incorporated into the turnstile, including concealed or flush-mounted reader arrangements. Multiple operational modes can be configured, including controlled entry and exit, free passage and visitor-management applications.

Installation, Drilling, Trenching and Baseplates

Installation should be coordinated with the architectural, electrical and access-control drawings before construction begins.

A firm, level concrete foundation with a minimum slab depth of 4 inches is needed for standard installation. Mounting hardware and a floor template are supplied for anchoring the cabinets to the concrete floor.

Before drilling, the installer should verify the location of reinforcing steel, electrical conduits, plumbing, radiant heating and other concealed utilities. The final cabinet positions should be established before drilling the floor.

For new construction, power and access-control/data conduit should be stubbed up at the cabinet locations before the finished floor is installed. This allows the electrical and low-voltage wiring to enter the cabinet cleanly without unnecessary surface raceway.

Where drilling and trenching through the finished floor is undesirable, an optional floor-saver/baseplate platform can be specified where available. This can be particularly useful for retrofit projects or finished architectural floors. The manufacturer specifically identifies a floor-saver platform as an available option.

Multiple-Lane Installation

Multiple units can be arranged together to create two, three or more controlled pedestrian lanes. Shared center cabinets can reduce the amount of equipment required between adjacent lanes, allowing a high-capacity entrance to be designed within a relatively compact footprint.

Finishes and Architectural Options

The system is available with multiple cabinet and finish options, including standard colors and custom combinations. Clear glass barriers maintain visibility through the lane, while optional panel etching, LED illumination and ambient lighting can be used to coordinate the equipment with the surrounding architecture.
