Compact Optical Turnstile - Tall Panels
Product Description
The Compact Optical Turnstile is a space-saving pedestrian access-control system designed for secure entrances where floor space is limited. With a cabinet depth of only 9.5 inches (240 mm), it provides controlled pedestrian passage while minimizing the footprint required for each lane. The system is suited to corporate lobbies, employee entrances, government facilities, higher-education buildings, health and fitness facilities and other high-traffic interior access points.
The system uses motorized clear swinging glass barriers with optical sensing to monitor the passageway and help detect tailgating or unauthorized entry. The barriers operate bi-directionally and can be configured for either standard or wider ADA access, while illuminated indicators help guide users and communicate access status. The manufacturer states that its sensor system can detect tailgating attempts as close as approximately one inch.
A standard passageway is approximately 26 inches wide, while the ADA configuration provides approximately 36 inches of clear passage. These barrier heights are taller ranging from 47" to 71". The same compact cabinet dimensions are used for both standard and tall panels, which can simplify multi-lane architectural planning where space is limited.
The turnstile integrates with building access-control systems and can support operating modes such as controlled entry and exit, free-flow operation, and emergency release. Options include illuminated RFID indicators, running lights, integrated barcode readers, custom finishes and a floor-saver platform. Automatic opening on loss of power is also available for applicable configurations.
Architectural Planning & Installation
Because the cabinet is only 9.5 inches deep, this optical turnstile is particularly useful where architects need to maximize usable lobby space while maintaining controlled pedestrian circulation. Multi-lane layouts can be planned using standard and ADA-width lanes together, depending on the building's circulation and accessibility requirements. The manufacturer provides an installation manual, architectural specification and Revit files to support project coordination.
Installation planning should be completed before the finished floor is installed. Depending on the selected mounting method, the project may require floor drilling, anchoring or an optional floor-saver/baseplate arrangement. Power, access-control/data and fire-alarm or emergency connections should be coordinated with the architectural and electrical drawings before installation.
For new construction or major renovations, the contractor should establish the exact lane layout, finished-floor elevations, cabinet positions, mounting points and conduit routes in advance. For existing finished floors, drilling locations should be checked for structural reinforcement, radiant heat, utilities and other concealed services before anchors are installed.
