Product Description

The Space-Saving Swing Glass Speed Gate provides controlled pedestrian access in a compact architectural design. Motorized glass barriers open smoothly for authorized users while integrated optical detection monitors the passage area for unauthorized entry and tailgating.

With narrow, standard and wide lane configurations, the system can be specified for conventional pedestrian traffic, accessible entrances and locations where additional passage width is required. Its compact cabinet footprint makes it particularly well suited for office lobbies, corporate facilities, financial institutions, government buildings, universities, healthcare facilities and other high-traffic controlled-access environments.

Space-Efficient Architectural Design

The narrow cabinet design minimizes the equipment footprint while maintaining a substantial passage area. Each cabinet is approximately 4-1/8" wide, 40-3/4" high and 69-7/8" long, allowing multiple lanes to be installed in a relatively compact entrance area.

Stainless-steel construction and glass barriers provide a contemporary appearance suitable for modern commercial and institutional interiors. Custom finishes can also be considered when the equipment needs to coordinate with the surrounding architecture.

Swinging Glass Barriers

The Space-Saving Swing Glass Speed Gate uses motorized swinging glass barriers that open automatically after an authorized credential is received. The barriers provide a visible physical separation between secured and unsecured areas while maintaining an open, transparent appearance.

Standard barrier height is approximately 37 inches, with taller configurations available from approximately 47 to 71 inches for applications requiring increased physical separation.

Passage Width Options

Multiple lane configurations allow the entrance to be designed around the available floor space and intended use:

  • Narrow: approximately 19-11/16"
  • Standard: approximately 24-1/4"
  • Wide: approximately 36"

The 36-inch wide configuration provides additional space for wheelchair users, carts, luggage and other wider pedestrian traffic.

Optical Security Detection

Integrated optical sensors monitor movement through the passage area and help identify unauthorized entry and tailgating. Additional detection can be configured to monitor attempts to pass beneath or over the barriers.

Visual lane indicators provide users with clear guidance regarding whether passage is available, authorized or restricted. Audible alarms can also be incorporated for security events.

Access Control Integration

The Space-Saving Swing Glass Speed Gate is designed to integrate with a wide range of third-party access-control systems. The interface supports compatible card, proximity, biometric and other credential technologies.

Reader equipment can be integrated into the pedestal or specified with an appropriate external mounting arrangement. This allows the system to be coordinated with the building's existing access-control infrastructure.

Optional configurations can also support facial-recognition technology and other advanced credentialing systems.

Elevator Destination Displays

For buildings with controlled elevator access, an optional elevator destination display can be incorporated into the entrance equipment. The display can support destination information for multiple elevators, helping direct authorized users to the appropriate elevator after credential verification.

This configuration is particularly useful in high-rise office buildings, commercial towers and other facilities using destination-dispatch elevator systems.

Multi-Lane Entrance Applications

The Space-Saving Swing Glass Speed Gate can be installed as an individual lane or incorporated into a multi-lane entrance. An optional external touchscreen control arrangement can provide centralized management of multiple lanes.

This allows security personnel or reception staff to monitor and control the entrance without requiring direct access to each individual pedestal.

Bi-Directional Operation

The Space-Saving Swing Glass Speed Gate can be configured for one-way or bi-directional access. In a bi-directional installation, the same lane can control both entry and exit, reducing the number of lanes required while maintaining controlled access in both directions.

The operating configuration can be coordinated with the building's access-control system.

Safety and Emergency Egress

Safety sensors monitor the barrier area during operation. The system can be configured for fail-safe operation and can interface with a building fire-alarm system for emergency egress.

Emergency and power-failure operation should be coordinated with the project's life-safety requirements and applicable building and fire codes.

Construction and Finishes

The pedestal is constructed for commercial interior applications and uses stainless-steel surfaces with glass barriers. Custom colors and finishes can be considered where the equipment needs to coordinate with a specific architectural interior.

The transparent glass barrier maintains visibility across the entrance while providing a physical indication of the controlled passage.

High-Traffic Performance

The Space-Saving Swing Glass Speed Gate is designed for high-frequency pedestrian environments, with typical throughput of approximately 20–30 people per minute, depending on credentialing procedures and operating conditions.

A published mean cycles between failures rating of approximately 5 million cycles provides a useful reference for specifying the equipment in busy commercial entrances.

Installation, Drilling, Trenching and Baseplates

Installation should be coordinated with the architectural, electrical and access-control drawings before construction begins.

For new construction, electrical power, access-control wiring and data conduits should be routed to the equipment locations and stubbed up before the finished floor is installed. Conduit placement should account for the pedestal footprint, access-control readers and any optional elevator display or control equipment.

For retrofit installations, the finished floor should be evaluated before drilling. Any required drilling or trenching should be coordinated with existing electrical services, plumbing, structural reinforcement and other concealed utilities.

Where the existing finished floor requires protection, or where an alternate mounting arrangement is desired, baseplates or floor-protection mounting solutions can be considered where compatible with the selected configuration.

Anchoring, conduit locations and floor requirements should be established from the applicable installation drawings before field installation.
