Tandem Gate, 1-Way, Anti-Shoplifting

This motorized tandem gate system creates two controlled pedestrian passageways for high-traffic retail entrances. Designed for one-way customer entry, each gate automatically opens when its sensor detects a pedestrian entering the designated approach area and closes after passage.

The tandem configuration is particularly well suited for supermarkets, department stores, airports and other busy entrances where two adjacent lanes can accommodate higher pedestrian volume and shopping-cart traffic. Posts and railing define the approach areas and help prevent nearby pedestrian traffic from unintentionally activating the gates.

Wrong-Way Detection and Anti-Shoplifting Alarm

The system is designed to discourage customers from using the entrance lanes as an unauthorized exit. Sensors monitor the controlled areas on both sides of the gates. When a pedestrian approaches from the wrong direction, the system can sound an alarm rather than automatically opening the gate. 

If a gate is physically pushed in the reverse direction, a breakout audio alarm sounds for approximately five seconds, alerting store personnel to possible unauthorized exit activity. An attendant can also be provided with a push-button override to authorize passage in the reverse direction when necessary.

Motorized Tandem Operation

The two-gate arrangement provides approximately a 72" total passage area, based on two nominal 36" lanes. The gate arms are motor controlled, and custom arm lengths can be fabricated for project-specific layouts. Standard posts and railing are included to establish approximately 3-foot controlled approach areas around the gates. 

In the event of a power failure, the gates can be moved manually. The system can also be linked to the facility's fire-alarm system when required.

Available finishes include bright chrome and stainless steel, with custom signage available for directing pedestrian traffic.

Installation

The tandem gate, posts and railing should be installed on a firm, level structural floor. Floor mounting flanges are anchored to the floor, with covers concealing the anchor bolts for a finished appearance.

The complete tandem layout should be established before drilling. Coordinate the two passageways, approximately 3-foot sensor zones, posts, railing, gate swing and surrounding pedestrian routes. Electrical power, sensor wiring, push-button controls and any fire-alarm interface should also be planned before installation.
